Wow, did Barbara Walters ever hit the nail on the head about Thermal Reconditioning or Japanese Hair Straightening on ABC News’ 20/20 last night.

BE CAREFUL, done wrong, it can leave you with broken damaged beyond repair hair.

The funny part was as the 20/20 with Barbara Walters report pointed out a lot of negatives to the procedure, if you really want straight hair, those negatives would be positives.

They spent a bit of time telling you how permanent the process is. Done correctly, the process is abosulutely permanent, so don’t think you can decide to go back to curly by way of a perm. A great thing, if you want straight hair permanently. The hair is basically straight until it grows out, then the new growth will be the way it was. If you want to keep it straight, you will need to come back for a touch up of the roots in 3 to 6 months depending on how fast your hair grows and how curly it was before you straightened it.

The damage question. No Japanese Straightened Hair or Thermal reconditioned hair is not healthy. However it does look healthy. So do you want healthly looking Not technically healthy hair that is straight, or curly really healthy hair that doesn’t look healthy. I personally thought that whole argument was a bit funny.

There is a lot you can do to limit the damage to your hair. The biggest is to be cautious about what process you are having done. Shiseido Crystallize is a great process as it can actually allow coloring to a limited extent after straightening, and is one of the more efficient and less damaging processes on the market.

The other great product for minimal damaging Japanese Hair Straightening or Thermal reconditioning is Liscio by Milbon. Minimal damage and a slightly shinier finish than Shiseido’s Crystallize but not able to be colored afterwards as it seals the hair to well.

The biggest thing that was correct about Barbara Walters of ABC News 20/20 was the fact that you really do need to be careful who you choose to have your hair straightened by. If the technician is not experienced, they can melt your hair, and it can break off in clumps just like 20/20 said. That is no JOKE!

Beware of cheap places as they may be cutting corners. Japanese staff can be a sign that they have the correct training, but not completely neccessary to ensure a good quality job.

Once your hair has been straightened, you will no longer struggle with the blow dryer every morning to make your hair look great. 10 minutes and you will be good to go. Rain, Shine, swimming pool, whatever. Your hair will be straight just like Avril Lavigne and Jennifer Anniston. Hey what lady wouldn’t want Brad Pitt to be attracted to you!

Straight Hair, if you want it, you can have it, do your due diligence and have a consultation (usually free) to make sure you are comfortable the person doing it has the necessary experience to not MELT YOUR HAIR!

Wow, Japanese Hair Straightening to hit the big time.(thermal reconditioning) It appears from an ad I just saw for 20/20 with Barbara Walters on ABC news that they will be doing a segment on this fantastic Japanese Hair Straightening technique.

Wonder if they have the new information or the old. New products like Liscio by Milbon and Crystallize by Shiseido do not damage hair as much as older products used to.

I saw them say something about being careful about just running down to your local salon to have it done on the commercial for 20/20 on abc news with Barbara Walters, we couldn’t agree more.
